SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington – Prior to the high water surge, anglers were finding good success on the Kalama and Lewis Rivers. Hatchery fish are should remain a fair option on the Kalama.

The Cowlitz should see another surge of hatchery fish to the system but flows must come down before anglers can expect any measurable results. Small baits boondoggled or sidedrifted will produce the best results on this system, a technique best suited for boat fishing.

SW Washington Fishing Report

SW Washington – Area rivers remain in good shape for what few steelheaders are taking advantage of. Fair catches are coming from the Kalama with steelhead also available in fair numbers on the Lewis system.

The Cowlitz remains fair but should improve in the coming weeks. The river remains somewhat turbid however.

Great numbers of smelt are reported from the Cowlitz River although commercial and sport dippers are not allowed to harvest this season. The glut of smelt could draw sturgeon to the area for anglers to take advantage of.

SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington – District rivers have finally healed from the recent flooding and are providing good action for steelheaders.

The Kalama has been holding its water and is a stand-out this season with good catches coming from throughout the system.

The Lewis has been producing fair catches up to the hatchery but the East Fork has been slow.

The Cowlitz has seen a nice early surge of fish but action will only get better as the season goes on. Late season broodstock peaks later in the month and early March.
