Washington fishing report

SW Washington – The signature fishery this year will be the Wind River and Drano Lake salmon effort. With large returns forecast and dam passage ramping up, catch rates have increased significantly in recent days with excellent prospects in the coming weeks. This area is relatively small so stress levels can take away from a quality experience for these prized springers.

On the Wind River itself, the daily bag limit has been increased to 2 fish per day.

Catches are improving on the Cowlitz and Kalama Rivers but effort remains light on the Lewis.

Washington Fishing Update

SW Washington – Spring chinook are starting to show in the Cowlitz River and Lewis Rivers and steelhead are available too.

Most Washington anglers are anxiously awaiting better passage at Bonneville Dam to target salmon at Wind River and Drano Lake. Effort remains light in these fisheries but an occasional spring chinook is being caught.

Silver and Horseshoe Lakes along with Swofford Pond were recently planted with catchable sized trout.

Washington fishing

SW Washington – A little over 130 salmon have passed over Bonneville Dam but anglers are already targeting springers at Wind River and Drano Lake. Only an occasional fish has been taken.

Steelhead returns to the Kalama Falls hatchery are at a 30-year low. Few anglers are fishing but success has been low.

The Lewis River remains a late season steelhead option with a few springers beginning to show. The most interest remains on the Columbia mainstem however so effort here is light.
