SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington- Spring chinook options are waning with poor returns to nearly all district facilities this year. Anglers have been discouraged but are hopeful that summer steelhead will provide options into July.

Columbia River beach angling was fair for steelhead on the recent tide series and although spring chinook opportunities have once again opened up, catches have been light.

The Wind River and Drano Lake fisheries have slowed dramatically but the Klickitat River should offer up some limited options with summer steelhead soon on tap.

SW Washington fishing

SW Washington- District anglers remain challenged for spring chinook. The Cowlitz remains the top option and the North Fork is closed to all fishing until the steelhead opener later this month.

Anglers working the Drano Lake and Wind River fisheries are still scoring some salmon with a large percentage still jacks. The Klickitat River is putting out fair numbers and steelhead are beginning to show.

More razor clam opportunities on the Washington Coast beginning on Friday; check the WDF&W website for details.

SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington- Returns to district rivers are poor with the Kalama and Lewis River hatcheries witnessing fewer than 30 adults back to the facilities as of May 10th. The Cowlitz remains the best option and fish are being taken near the Barrier Dam.

Action as Wind River and Drano Lake predictably slowed with a high percentage of the fish taken being jacks. The run has peaked passed these fisheries.

SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington- District anglers remain somewhat stymied as options are limited with the sub-par returns we're witnessing. The Cowlitz and Lewis do have spring chinook available and summer steelhead numbers are starting to bolster but most anglers are losing interest fast with the low catch rates.

Also a reality, counts at Bonneville Dam are peaking, causing anglers to take a hard look at the Drano Lake and Wind River fisheries. Catches should peak this week and remain steady through mid-month.

Another minus tide series will likely bring excellent results for razor clam diggers beginning today. The proposed digs are:

Digging dates at those beaches, along with morning low tides, are as follows:

  • May 8, Wednesday, 6:22 am -0.5 ft., Twin Harbors
  • May 9, Thursday, 7:00 am, -0.8 ft., Twin Harbors
  • May 10, Friday, 7:37 am, -0.9 ft., Twin Harbors, Long Beach
  • May 11, Saturday, 8:12 am, -0.8 ft., Twin Harbors, Long Beach
  • May 12, Sunday, 8:48 am, -0.7 ft., Twin Harbors
  • May 13, Monday, 9:23 am, -0.5 ft., Twin Harbors
  • May 14, Tuesday, 10:01 am, -0.2 ft., Twin Harbors

SW Washington fishing report for May 3, 2013

SW Washington- With most district streams becoming low and clear, salmon and steelhead fishing remains challenging on the Lewis and Kalama. The Cowlitz will remain the region's top bet but even that isn't a great one.

With spring chinook now pouring over Bonneville Dam, interest and success is climbing in the Wind River and Drano Lake fisheries. Good catches can be expected this week for those trolling plugs, herring or shrimp. With no effort taking place downstream of Bonneville, success will likely be good.
