SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington- The Cowlitz is still producing some coho but chinook district wide are starting to turn and make for poor table fare. The Lewis however should still get fresh chinook well into next month. Coho action should remain fair on the Lewis and Kalama as well.

The district's first winter steelhead appeared at the Kalama Falls hatchery this week although it was wild.

Walleye are a fair option around the Camas/Washougal stretch of the Columbia River.

Anglers are still witnessing good chinook fishing at the mouth of the Klickitat River although fish are starting to turn dark.

SW Washington fishing

SW Washington- The Lewis remains a top option for quality chinook but the Cowlitz and Kalama will also produce some late season chinook and coho into November. Coho numbers back to the hatchery reared systems should be peaking for fresh fish this week. After that, quality will deteriorate.

The mouths of the Klickitat and White Salmon have slowed somewhat and with the absence of a strong coho return, should continue to wane into early November. It has been a great season however.

SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington- Coho and chinook are still peaking on the big 3 district tributaries. The North Fork Lewis remains a top bet for quality chinook and coho are options on the Cowlitz, mainstem Lewis and Kalama Rivers. Fresh coho should be available through the end of October but returns are expected to be down.

Drano Lake remains a fair option for chinook but the lower Klickitat is still productive for chinook and some coho. Both should begin to taper after late October.

Catch and release sturgeon fishing is typically strong in October but without a consumptive opportunity, interest is low.

SW Washington fishing report

SW Washington- The Cowlitz, Kalama and Lewis Rivers are all producing fair to good catches of chinook and coho with the Lewis the bright spot for quality chinook. Action is likely to continue through October although the quality of fish will degrade rapidly on some of these systems.

The Klickitat River, especially near the mouth, remains a great option for late season chinook and coho are starting to show as well. With chinook making up the primary catch and coho numbers down, this fishery will slow after mid-month.

SW Washington Fishing

SW Washington- Recent rain freshets affecting the district's rivers should stimulate both coho and chinook fishing. The Cowlitz and Lewis will remain the best prospects for both species as we enter the peak season for later returning coho. Bait seems to produce the best in higher water as these systems prep for some good weekend opportunities.

The Drano Lake fishery may begin to slow as Bonneville passage declines but the mouth of the Klickitat should remain productive with more chinook and coho on the way. This fishery typically lasts into late November, especially for coho but with the low return this year, expect it to taper sooner than usual.
